Money Monday & More

Money order

I didn’t think I’d have an update this soon, but I do. So, without further ado, what happened to me this weekend financially…

I have a 36.41 check coming to me from my old electricity company. It’s a credit from the deposit that I had put down when I first got electricity through them. This is earmarked for a very sad looking savings account that I have. Yay free/found money! ūüėÄ

I also got back some money I was expecting. I had given my old apartment complex a money order, as they’d proven they couldn’t be trusted with checks, and somehow it got thrown in the garbage. I had to send in the stub and a money order to have it investigated and refunded. I got the money order yesterday. Instead of giving it to my old complex, I’m going to use it to pay some things ahead of time and pay them out of my next check. It’s helping me stay liquid for the next two weeks.

So what did I use my work check for and how am I using my refunded money order? On Friday, I paid my car insurance (and changed my address with them–which brought my bill down forty dollars a month! Whoo hoo!), my car payment (which I am still not caught up on–but wait), my phone bill (caught up until the fifteenth of this month), and all of my old cable and internet bill…which is phenomenal. I also bought a wedding gift for a friend and her new hubby, and managed to have a (very) few dollars left.

With this new money, I’m going to catch up my car payment until the twenty second of January, pay this month’s cell phone bill, pay the last bill for my old apartment’s gas (so glad to be all electric now!), and save some. The rest will be for Christmas shopping, gas for my car, and groceries.

When I get paid again, I will have money left after paying my old apartment complex to tide me over. I pay rent again on the check after that, with some left over. I will also have my monthly supplemental income from paperwork at the end of the month, and (hopefully) money from my deposit for the old apartment. I’m hoping that with some good budgeting, I will be able to get¬†one or two¬†of those one time things paid off, and put¬†a few more dollars towards¬†my savings/emergency fund.

¬†The christmas shopping isn’t going so well. After dragging MensHealth through the entire mall, I still have no idea what I’m going to get him this year. He says he knows exactly what he’s going to get me, yet I have no idea what to get him. I’m sure I can come up with something, but it irks me he knows what he’s getting me before I know what to get him. Not to mention our mothers and my brother and his sister. I don’t know how much money I’ll have for Christmas, but I want to make sure I cover the bases.

Help me pick out a gift for MensHealth. What do you get the men in your life? Is a gift card too impersonal a gift?
