You Can’t Rain on My Parade!

After being spoiled by sunny days and warm temperatures, I am not happy about this rainy weather we’re having today. However, I’ve gotten myself into a good routine, and I’m not going to let myself get out of it now.

I went onto the website for the gym that I belong to, and found out a few interesting things. The first is that in order for it to count as running a mile, it has to be done at a 5 mile an hour pace, or a 12 minute mile. My best timed jog/walk interval so far was 17:07 minutes. I’m far from a runner. 😦

The second interesting thing that I learned was that I could keep track of my workouts, meals, and goals on the new program on their website. I knew I could use the Life Center to keep track of my blood pressure, BMI, body fat, and weight, but I hadn’t looked into the Life Works program yet.

Since I can’t go jogging in this soggy weather (and because my legs still hate me a little bit), I’m going to go to the gym tonight. After some cardio crosstraining, I’m going to hit my first yoga class at my gym. If it’s still crummy tomorrow, I’m going to do a little cardio, then Body Flow (Tai Chi, Yoga, and Pilates combined).

I realize how important it is to maintain a routine now. My 7 Habits of Highly Effective People calendar told me that in order to make something a habit in our lives, we have to have knowledge, skill, and desire. I was expecting repetition. It makes sense, though. At the moment, running is not a habit. In fact, no fitness activity is a habit for me by this definition. But I’m working on it.

What’s your definition of a habit? What’s your fitness habit? What tips do you have for a newbie to begin to develop good fitness habits?
